ABOUT ME

'Music is Life and Life is Music'

I’m Joy Dando, a HCPC licensed Music Therapist based in South Wales.

I have worked in education for nearly 30 years, working as a teacher and a Headteacher before retraining.  I now work through South Wales with groups and individuals, supporting their therapeutic aims and goals.  This can be helping with; anxiety, grief, trauma or developing communication skills.

  • To ensure that there is a bespoke service meeting the needs of each individual and group.

Music making, sharing, exploring and being

Music therapy is a psychological therapy that aims to facilitate positive changes in emotional wellbeing and communication through the engagement in live musical interaction between client and therapist. Central to music therapy is the relationship that is established and developed between client and therapist.


It is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualised goals.

Music therapy interventions can address a variety of healthcare & educational goals:

BESPOKE INTERVENTIONS

What to expect

Working with each client in special and unique and will include:


  • Agreeing  therapy objectives.

  • Taking an active role in sessions by playing, singing and listening.

  • Encouraging you to use a range of accessible musical instruments, such as percussion and voice, to express yourself.

  • Encouraging your participation and supporting musically.

  • Helping to explore sound to create a musical language.

  • Improvising  with music as a reaction to  communication to enhance the individual nature of the relationship.

  • Planning, reviewing and assessing therapy sessions to monitor their effectiveness and to help plan following session.

  • Recording  therapy sessions, with  consent.

  • Helping  develop an increased self-awareness.
